Starting a family is a magical and wonderful experience. It can also be an incredibly stressful period with the demands of time and work required from little ones. My wife and I had some intense fights (verbal arguments) when our son was 3 and our daughter was 1. On reflection, I can't remember what the fights were about, but I think our fighting at that time was an outlet for the stress and pressure we experienced at that time. I wrote this song after one of those fights, and it was therapeutic to channel that anger and frustration somewhere other than the person I admire, love, cherish, and trust the most.
If you are a young parent out there going through those challenges in your relationship with your loved one, hang in there. It's so hard when the kids are so young, but it gets so much better. Give each other grace and forgive each other. You'll get through it.
Thunderclouds are in this house with me
Oh honey, you bring me down with your lightning
Thunderclouds but no rain for these roots and leaves
Not a drop nor a drizzle, no nothing
Bolts of pride ignite
White hot flames inside me
Fill this forest with fire, C’mon give it a try
I’ll taunt the gods to start a fight, I don't care tonight
Fire raining down
Fire raining down on me
Fire raining down
Fire raining down on me
Trees once green and gold
scorched to the bone
like Yellowstone,
Nineteen Eighty-eight
left all black and grey
and I feel so alone
and I feel so alone
Embers from charcoal glow
Through soot so white or is it snow - I don't know
Lost amongst black trunks
With no leaves and I can't see the sun through the smoke
Smoldering mistakes for miles and miles
Tribulations and trials; instead,
I should be the eastern breeze
That carries rain for the flames that I spread
Oh these flames that blame
And the rain for the flames
And the rain for the flames
Two hearts unite
Two minds a firefight
All made of flame and rain
All made of flame and rain
